12 miles @ 9:52

12 mile run at the Sparks Marina. First half at 9 minute miles, second about 11. My knees started feeling tight, but overall, I'm very happy with the pace. A little windy and cool. Nike Zoom Triax Structure 11s.

Five miles at 12:14 pace

My right knee is very tight and worrying me. Seems like it's always something... and I'm not even running that fast! First four miles at about 10 minute pace and the last mile I walked. Geez, doesn't this get any easier? Didn't help I was still full from dinner. Ran on the home treadmill in my new Nike Air Zoom Triax Structure 11s.

First run with new shoes!

Ah, I love the feeling of new shoes. Ran a short, slow 5 miles to feel out the legs after last Sunday's hilly 10k. I ran at South Reno Athletic Club with my new Nike Air Zoom Triax Structure 11s. Long name, but nice shoes. Good support and cushioning. Size 13s which seem to help my toes, but a little tighter on the width than my Nike Air Max Moto 6s. They feel snugger without losing the toe space. Good deal! 5 miles at 11:20 pace. :08 slower than I was supposed to, however I had a slow couple of laps to read some email.

You gotta be crazy!

Well, the race lived up to it's name. It was cold, windy and blowing snow. The weather didn't impact me as much as the one hill at the beginning of each of the two "laps" to complete the 10k. My 5k split time was 28 minutes and finished the 10k at 55:34 (8:58 pace). Much better pace than my recent Marathon, but slower than I wanted to. The "you gotta be crazy run" was put on by the Silver State Striders run club, started at the Verdi elementary school and traveled through Verdi, NV. This was my first time visiting Verdi. It was a nice little town.

Getting better

The lingering effects of the marathon are beginning to wear off. Ran 5 miles on my treadmill at a 10:04 pace. Felt much better. I think I'll push the pace a bit more at the "you gotta be crazy run" 10k this Sunday. Nike Air Max Moto 6.

Starting from scratch

After a week off from running, I'm doing a slow reentry. Three short, slow runs this week only totally about 8 miles and running in the 12 minute pace zone. My legs, particularly knees, felt tight and sore. Now I'm feeling better and look forward to this weekend's 10k in Verdi (the aptly named; you gotta be crazy run).

First Marathon!

Huntington Beach! Great course, great weather, great people. Awesome event! I started on track with my running plan. I ran a 10 minute mile until mile 20, then developed a blister on my right big toe and my knees started hurting. I slowed up and finished with a 11:10 pace at 4:52:26. Slower than I wanted, but I learned a lot about those last 6 miles. I haven't been over 20 miles but one time before (only to 24.5). I need to further develop the muscles that support my knees and work on my speed. I got a sweet medal and technical shirt and many great memories.

On to Oklahoma City in April!
